Teen CounselingDiscovering New Ways for Teens and Parents to Connect Based on Faithseo text | ||||||||
Teen CounselingDiscovering New Ways for Teens and Parents to Connect Based on FaithParents publicly joke about their adolescents having the disorder of the day, but privately they cry because of the loss of connection to their children and about not being effective any more. Parents who knew how to redirect their toddlers, or coach their elementary school children, come in powerless about how to sustain the affection of their teenagers or just regain some measure of control. I did youth ministry for years. I am also a survivor I like working with teenagers and, even though I do not have a clue about how to get to the next level in a video game they play or how it feels to have instant messaging or the car taken away, most teens like working with me. I use Alan Keith-Lucas' writing on the difficult task of helping through reality, empathy and support. Teens can usually vividly imagine their graduation; then they can find the motivation to attend classes, read books and do the assignments to make their dreams come true. If the teens have anxiety, depression, ADHD, learning disorders or other problems keeping them from the success they would like, then diagnosing and treating those first helps them find hope for dealing with the rest of the issues.
